Biscayne Bay is an estuary like lagoon on the South East Coast of Florida that covers a surface area of around 221 square miles. The area houses Biscayne National Park and the northernmost region of the Florida Reef, one of the largest coral reefs in the world. The bays positioning in a transition zone between the Nearctic and Neotropical realms results in a broad variety of plant and animal life, many of the species seen here, particularly birds, are not found anywhere else in North America.
